The difference between 316 stainless steel and 304 stainless steel

316 stainless steel and 304 stainless steel are two common stainless steel materials that have the following differences:

1. Different chemical composition: 316 stainless steel has added 2% to 3% of molybdenum element than 304 stainless steel, so 316 stainless steel is more corrosion resistant than 304 stainless steel.

2. Different corrosion resistance: Due to the addition of molybdenum, 316 stainless steel is more corrosion resistant than 304 stainless steel, especially in corrosive environments such as salt water.

3. Tensile strength is different: 316 stainless steel has higher tensile strength than 304 stainless steel and can withstand greater forces.

4. Magnetic difference: 304 stainless steel has some magnetic properties, while 316 stainless steel is basically non-magnetic.

5. Price difference: 316 stainless steel is more costly than 304 stainless steel, and more expensive.

Because 316 stainless steel has higher corrosion resistance and higher tensile strength, it is widely used in marine engineering, chemical industry and other fields requiring high corrosion resistance and high strength.
