How should a mother choose an ampoule for her baby
The "Safety Standards for Infant and Toddler Bottles" released by the China Toys and Infant Products Association has been officially implemented, filling the gap in safety standards for China's milk bottle products. However, many consumers are unaware of this and still choose blindly. In response, The Life Times invited Dong Jinshi, Executive Vice President and Secretary General of the International Food Packaging Association, to interpret the new regulations and provide purchasing advice for parents.
The introduction of the new regulations is indeed a great progress, but there are still shortcomings. This standard is an industry standard, only binding on enterprises within the industry alliance, and the association does not have enforcement power, "Dong Jinshi pointed out. In addition, the hygiene standards for infant and toddler milk bottles in China are based on materials rather than usage, and the specifications are relatively general.
How to choose an An's bottle? According to the new standards, Dong Jinshi provides the following tips on the safety, warning signs, fragile signs, temperature signs, and materials of milk bottles.
1. The bottle mouth should not have sharp edges or tips. In the past, some milk bottles had sharp edges at the mouth due to not being polished properly, which could scratch the baby. Therefore, the new regulations make regulations on safety. It should be noted that if the nipple is torn, pulled apart, or pulled off the bottle, it may be accidentally swallowed by infants and young children, blocking the throat, and causing suffocation. Dong Jinshi said that this reminds parents to pay attention to whether there are sharp edges and tips when choosing a bottle, and whether the pacifier is fixed.
2. There should be a scale mark on the milk bottle, and the small capacity scale value should not exceed 60 milliliters. There is a serious deviation in the scale of the bottle used to mix milk for children, which may lead to long-term consumption of high or low concentration milk by infants and young children, affecting their normal development. Dong Jinshi pointed out that some milk bottles display a capacity of 60 milliliters on the scale, but in reality, only 40 milliliters. Therefore, standardizing the scale can effectively reduce errors. Dong Jinshi also reminds parents to check whether the scale is clearly marked when choosing to avoid being erased in future repeated use.
3. The font height of Chinese characters, numbers, and letters used on milk bottles shall not be less than 1.8 millimeters. Dong Jinshi explained that if the font used for the bottle is too small, it can make some parents, especially the elderly, unable to read the scales, instructions, etc. marked on it, which can cause danger. When making a purchase, it is advisable to place the bottle at a different position from the eyes and check if the handwriting on it is clear.
4. The font size of safety warnings such as "danger", "warning", and "attention" should not be less than four point boldface, and the font size of warning content should not be less than five point boldface. Dong Jinshi said that this is also due to the above safety considerations. Parents should look carefully when making purchases.
5. Glass milk bottles should have fragile markings. In the past, there was no fragile warning for baby bottles, and parents and children were prone to burns and punctures due to broken bottles. If ordinary sodium calcium glass milk bottles do not undergo thermal shock tests with boiling water or ice water, the product should be accompanied by a warning to remind consumers not to use them in a sudden cold or hot state. In addition, glass milk bottle bursting is also a quality issue that consumers often complain about, so parents should check whether there is a temperature tolerance range warning when choosing.
6. Products with straws should be warned that 'straws are not suitable for infants under 6 months old'. Babies within 6 months may not be able to grasp the force of the straw well, and may choke if they inhale too much water at once. Therefore, the new standard proposes to clarify this warning and provide a warning for novice parents.
