Tea is a model of Chinese culture surpassing McDonald's and KFC
"I have been drinking milk tea since the 1990s, and at that time I knew that milk tea would eventually become popular around the world," said Qian Haifen. In the late 1990s, the first milk tea shop opened in Hangzhou, and Qian Haifen worked as a journalist for Hangzhou Daily at that time. "At that time, I went to drink all day long. Later, when I arrived in France, I couldn't drink milk tea for several years and missed it very much."
Nowadays, many international students are starting businesses in milk tea shops in France, some of which also serve as art galleries. "Young people nowadays gather popularity through milk tea and hold cultural activities, which I think is a good model for Chinese culture to go global," said Qian Haifen.
Qian Haifen observed that in France, many local milk tea shops would place a bookshelf with Chinese books on it. "When customers line up and chat in the store, they can read these books and quietly spread Chinese culture, which I think is very good." She said, "Milk tea is a model of Chinese culture that surpasses McDonald's and KFC.".
